How to Train a Dog to Give a Hug
67Feeling the embrace of a dog is a gratifying and bonding act between human and animal. Sometimes, however, a dog's hug is forced on you when you come through the door after a day at the office and is more of a nuisance or can be physically problematic if the dog grossly outweighs the owner. With a little daily training and persistence, you can train a dog to hug you on command when you want and avoid spontaneous or blind-side hugs when you want some space.
Step 1:
Bring your dog into an environment with little distractions. Remove all of your dog's toys and treats from the room except for one particular toy or treat that really captures your dog's attention.
Step 2:
Command your dog to “sit” in front of you. Make sure he is calm and collected before you start.
Step 3:
Kneel down to your dog's level to lower the height differential.
Step 4:
Lift your dog's paws onto your shoulders and say “hug.” If he keeps his paws on your shoulders, pet thoroughly and reward with a treat or toy. If he is anxious, moving or in any way disobedient, do not reward until he heeds your command.
Step 5:
Say “OK” and help him down off your shoulders and into a sitting position. Repeat these steps daily until your dog is able to obey easily, but do not do these steps more than three times daily, as any more will over stimulate your dog and may actually become counterproductive.
Tip:
If you have a particularly excited or energetic dog, consider doing this exercise with a leash to better control your dog's actions.

Hi, we did have a dog, but it died a few years ago, maybe one of these days I may get another one, I just take my brothers out at the moment! lol
The Shih Tzu is a PERFECT apt. pet. Adult weight is 10 - 14 lbs. Very smart, not big shedders, and friendly to everyone they meet. This small breed enjoys quite family time with lots of love and companionship. My opion, the Shih Tzu is the #1 doggy.
